August 2012

Exactly one year ago, I came back to my beloved alma mater as the dean of the KU School of Business.  It has been wonderful to enjoy the many things about KU that have not changed and will never change: the strong sense of community, the tradition of excellence, and the pride and joy of being a Jayhawk!

At the same time, it is exhilarating to see our students, faculty, staff and alumni strive to make the school better every day.  It is a simple yet powerful vision we all share:  we will make the KU business school the best place for students to learn, the best place for faculty and staff to work, and the best place for all our constituents to invest.  On a personal note, I have never worked harder at any job and I have never enjoyed anything quite as much!

There are so many exciting things happening on campus that we decided the only way to keep you all in the loop is through this monthly newsletter.  You will see highlighted here the major events we will be hosting in the month, research by our faculty, and the activities of our students.  Send us your feedback – what else would you like to see in this newsletter?

What I am looking forward to in August
1. A break in the heat wave that has gripped Lawrence.
2. The busy-ness of a business school buzzing with students.  Yes, parking is better in the summer, but we are ready for our students to be back!  It just does not feel like campus otherwise.
3. Our new director of undergraduate programs, Professor Bill Beedles, will be welcoming freshmen admits to the school and kicking off our honors program.
4. Orientation activities will see us welcome the best MBA class in a decade, and a consistently high quality incoming MAcc class.
5.  Eight new faculty members will be joining us: three in accounting, two in finance, two in marketing and one in management.  You can read more about our new faculty below.
